This certificate consists of twelve (12) credits designed to develop proficiency in the application of forensic genetic genealogy to criminal, civil, and family history investigations. Students will learn to use the methods of traditional genealogy and genetic genealogy as instrumental components of forensic investigations. Students will be immersed in the fundamentals of forensic biology and DNA analysis to provide a foundation for the principles, applications, and interpretation of biological evidence. The curriculum expands into genetic genealogy and the various DNA testing methods used within forensic investigations as well as traditional genealogy methods using documentary evidence to achieve results. Investigation techniques and ethical practices will be emphasized throughout the curriculum which culminates with the completion of a forensic investigative genetic genealogy practicum.
