Industrial Production Technology (IPT) is an associate degree program centering on the design of products and the machines required to manufacture them. IP technicians are needed in all industries from product fabrication to consumer goods and advanced technologies. IP Technicians work with engineers to implement and assure efficient and quality manufacturing practices. The IPT associate degree holder is well qualified to work along with engineers in design, testing, manufacturing, and the servicing of components and systems found in various industries. Graduates will have the knowledge, problem-solving ability, and hands-on skills necessary to be productive in the industrial production profession serving in positions involving the designing, specifying, installing, fabricating, manufacturing, testing, documenting, operating, selling, and/or maintaining basic mechanical systems.
Upon completion of the program, graduates will earn an Associate of Applied Science with a major in Industrial Production Technology and will be able to:

Collaborate as a team member to brainstorm, design, troubleshoot, program, and test projects to solve design problems.

Apply the knowledge, techniques, skills, and modern tools of the discipline to define industrial production technology activities in order to develop projects.

Demonstrate proficiency in computer-aided drafting and design; creation and application of orthographic projections; dimensioning, and tolerancing practices, including an introduction to geometric dimensioning and tolerancing.

Select, set up, and calibrate instrumentation; how to read detailed plans, understand machine safety and set-up, various joinery methods, assembly procedures, and finishing applications.

Prepare laboratory reports and systems documentation associated with the development, installation, or maintenance of mechanical components and systems;

Demonstrate an ability to conduct standard tests and measurements and to conduct, analyze, and interpret experiments;

Apply a knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering, and technology to industrial production problems that require limited application of principles but extensive practical knowledge;

Utilize written, oral, and graphical communication in both technical and non-technical environments; with an ability to identify and use appropriate technical literature.
