HPGA 203 - American Politics

The basic principles underlying the formation and function of the American government in its legislative, judicial, and executive branches. It is imperative that citizens understand the structure and dynamics of the U.S. political system to maintain a healthy democratic government. As such, the purpose of this course is to provide an overview of the structures, dynamics, institutions, and ideas that shape American national government. Specifically, this course will focus on three broad areas: the foundational elements of the U.S. political system, the formal institutions of American national government, and the political behavior of the American public, as it relates to the U.S. political process.
