MGMT 450 - Coaching and Sports Management 3 Credits This course is designed to provide the student with a fundamental understanding of the sport science and management skills necessary in becoming a successful coach. Students will compare and contrast a variety of objectives used to define success and then examine and redefine their individual philosophies. Topics will include motivation goal setting, organization, learning/teaching styles, team management and the coach’s responsibility to incorporate life lessons while teaching sport skills. A primary goal of the course is to develop and enhance students’ knowledge and understanding of concepts and techniques of coaching and their application to achieving important objectives in working with athletes. After completion of the course the student will have examined ethical concepts and have knowledge of organization and financial aspects in sport management.
